It is nearly impossible to put into words how it feels to celebrate your wedding with everyone you love in one room. I am sure going to try, but all these photos will certainly do a better job. On September 30th, 2017 Burke and I got married. Surrounded by all our favorite people and with the help of many, many incredible vendors, we pulled it off. It truly was the #bestHAIRdayever!
When planning our wedding, we wanted it to reflect who we are and what it is important to us. That meant incredible food, a raging dance floor, and cool, modern decor. Our ceremony and reception took place at The Lakewood, located in Chicago’s West Loop. It was the perfect modern backdrop for our marble accents, drapey greenery, and a bold neon sign.
Now this is a food blog after all, so I must to tell you about that. Burke and I are so happy we chose Paramount Events and The Lakewood for our wedding. So many of our guests commented that it was the best wedding food they had ever had, which was a big win for us.
Our appetizers included mini grilled cheese with fig jam, chicken with a buffalo sauce pipette, surf and turf – beef tenderloin & Maine lobster skewers, mini burgers, salmon tartare, and mini crab cakes. At dinner we served a tomato and burrata salad, and gave our guests the option of braised short ribs, pan roasted wild salmon, or ricotta filled raviolette for their entree.
Instead of serving a cake, we chose to bring in an ice cream truck stocked with all our childhood (and adult) favorites. Our late night food was our favorite fast food, Taco Bell, passed on trays on the dance floor for maximum consumption and dancing fuel.
Now, I wouldn’t get away with talking about our wedding without mentioning a very special, or very disgusting, drink that played a role in our wedding: Malort! Burke’s family always drinks it when they get together, so we had to have it stocked on our open bar.
Once speeches and dinner ended, I surprised Burke with an acapella performance of his favorite R. Kelly song, I Believe I Can Fly. After that, the dance floor was open and full all night long.
I cannot gush enough about how perfect the day was and how much love was in the room. It was the perfect day to start off our marriage as Mr. + Mrs. Hair.
